Universität Bielefeld (Bielefeld University)

An interdisciplinary approach, emphasis on research and an international outlook are the hallmarks of Bielefeld University, in fields ranging from the arts and social sciences to natural sciences and technology. The University has around 22,000 students enrolled in more than 108 courses at 13 faculties.

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) attracts international experts from all over the world. Founded in 1969 as a research institution, the University moved away from its pure research remit in the nineteen-nineties with the introduction of applications-oriented disciplines, for example in the Faculties of Technology and Health Science.

The University has established an excellent reputation in specific areas of research and teaching, not only in the arts and social sciences but also in natural sciences and technology. The excellence cluster, the postgraduate school and postgraduate colleges that have sprung up and the special research fields are all visible proof of this success. The courses lead to internationally recognized bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
